The new stated price of sachet water price from GHC 0.20 to GHC 0.30. announced by the National Association of Sachet and Packed Water Producers (NASPAWAP) early this week has been rejected by some sachet water sellers in Mamfe-Akuapem.
Speaking to Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Mamfe, Ms Mavis Oklo, a 47 year old sachet water seller, said she has been in the business for about 24 years and anytime there is an increase in prices, market becomes slow so she is not going to agree to the new price and would continue to sell it at the old price of one sachet for GHC 0.20 and two sachets for GHC 0.30.
She said, she could sell four to six packs of water on a normal day but after the announcement of the new price which is yet to come into effect, sales reduced to one and a half pack of water a day so she decided not to conform to the new price to keep her marke. she stated that, by going round shouting the old price, she was able to sell about 270 sachets.
The seller told GNA that she has been selling sachet water to provide food for her family of seven after the death of her husband.Ms Oklo said through the business, she has been able to send her daughter Abigail Oklo for training as a seamstress.
She also said the new price was greatly going to affect her business and is not in support of it.
