The Chief Executive Officer of Magyk Radio Mr. Tahiru Ibrahim Junior addressed the public on the 1st December at the forecourt of magyk radio premises in Ashaiman during the launch of Magyk Radio and Magyk market.
The Chief of Ashaiman and other stakeholders including all staffs of Magyk radio were present to grace the event as well as invited guests.
Mr.Ibrahim on his speech stated that, that day was an exciting day for him and his staffs in the media landscape.
“First and foremost, I would like to make a statement by BBC’s director of communication, Bob Shenna recently told an international conference in Amsterdam, that a new golden age of radio has emerged and that is online radio”. He said.
He stated that, with the fast growing nature of the internet and technology, most mobile phone companies do not design their phones with local terrestrial radio app. So basically one is pushed to download their favorite radio via the internet to be able to access information or news.
Someone may ask how do you make money via online radio? why haven’t you tried a frequency or terrestrial radio, that is so easy to operate, why Ashaiman and not Accra?.
Yes these are all genuine questions, but:
“As a lover of the media since my hay days, I have always said to myself I would like to serve and not be served and impact positively in the lives of the youth especially”. He said
He also stated that his passion for radio grew when he was at the age of 19 way back Secondary School when he first represented his school in a quiz competition on a local radio station in Tamale.
“I fell in love with the presenter, and for the first time seeing how radio is operated live I was perplex and amazed and that even drifted my attention to the agenda of the day. but still we won the competition”. He said.
He also said, he enjoyed stardom for four years in the University when he join his first radio and in a matter of time became a local star.
As an enthusiastic and vision oriented fellow, he never relented on his efforts to achieve his dream of setting up his own radio station. He therefore worked with many local radio stations in the north before he finally moved to Accra.
“I started Magyk Radio in a corner of my single room where I had friends come by to play shows, and today I can boldly say some are big time presenters on mainstream radio stations in Accra”. He said.
The zeal and the passion never ended despite his position as a public officer which he was appointed the entertainment chairman at the customs Academy and had a chance to organize events and many more.
Ashaiman as we all know ‘’was routed to be an uncomfortable area to stay’” but nonetheless, he took the bold decision to set up his radio station
to create job and to sensitize the community.
Magyk radio has been able to employ 15 talented young adults,3 been intern and we are operating on all online radio portals including the messiah Tune in Radio and we thank Almighy Allah for guiding us for operating for 11 months.
“We are working hard to come out with Magyk Tv and soon our frequency…though its quite expensive to acquire a local frequency in Ghana, especially Accra but Insha Allah we shall definitely acquire one day because I believe”. He stated.
“Working with people comes with a lot of challenges, but as an officer who has been trained to handle people with care and patience I have endure a lot of challenges and I believe its all part of human nature”. He added.
He thanked his humble Landlord Baba Seeba for not denying them his space when they first came to acquire the office space to operate.
The greatest thanks goes to Allah almighty for holding us down from February till date as we officially launch Magyk Radio and Magyk Market.
‘Many thanks to my beautiful wife and son, family and friends especially my number one fun my Dad Mr. Ibrahim Tahiru Agoody all the way in Salaga listening to us live, and to my Management for holding the fort whiles and away’.. He added.
