Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem south constituency, Kwaku Asante Boateng has indicated that more factories will be established at Asante Akyem to process produce from the planting for food initiative.
The MP in an interview with Adom News at the Asante Akyem South Municipal Assembly farmers’ day celebration in Dwendwenase said the MPS from the Asante Akyem areas are doing their best for the constituencies.
“The MPs are working together towards the establishment of factories in this constituency and therefore we urge the farmers to keep calm and should continue to do their best for the planting for food”R
The overall best farmer in the municipality Margaret Wirekua was awarded together with 25 other people for their contributiontowards agricultural production in the area.
The overall winner urged all and sundry to take advantage of farming system to develop the country.
She was honored with an ‘Aboboyaa’ vehicle, a 36inches coloured flat screen television, fridge, knapsack spraying machine, four cutlasses and Wellington boot to appreciate her hard work on her livestock farms in three different communities within the municipality.
Meanwhile the Municipal Chief executive Officer for the Asante Akyem south Alex Frimpong stated agriculture can play a vital role in the Ghana beyond aid mantra.
“It is a farmer who can make Ghana beyond aid possible if government will depend on the sector which provides about 25% of thecountry’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and raw materials base for industrialgrowth and transformation. Agriculture has been the most dominant sector of theeconomy of the country since independence and needs a revamp.”
He further announced the Assembly has facilitated the establishment of a company known as Best Fertilizer Company Limited at Asankare under the One-District One-Factory initiative which is expected to bein full operation by June 2019 and will process five about (5) million litres of fertilizer every year.
